Damask Sideboard Redo

Hi, my sweet friends!

When I started with furniture redo, I bought a cute cupboard that someone tried to paint white. I wanted to make it pretty outside and inside because I personally don’t like having a beautiful piece of furniture, and then open the doors and see the ugly interior. That’s my personal inner battle, I think it would be great just to paint the outside and leave the inside as it is, but when I see it beautiful and then I open the door… I end up painting everything inside as well.

One of the first things I did was to take off the back and replace it by a piece of plywood cut to fit. Isn’t that horrible? It seems the sideboard has a big belly…

Well, back to the piece, I bought it really cheap because the owner wanted to get rid of it, so as soon as I reached home I took it apart, cleaned it and started to paint it. Two coats of homemade chalk paint were enough to cover it properly, and left it until the next day.

In the meanwhile, I searched for a pretty damask, and when I found it I downloaded it. I used Photoshop to enlarge the image, and I printed it using 4 sheets. I put the graphic together with some cello tape and used a pencil to make some shading behind. With the papers attached and the drawing facing out I traced the silhouette of the damask, and that left on the sideboard all the lines which I painted in grey, as well as the knobs.

I decided to finish it lining the drawers with some silver contact paper, so I feel happy when I open it and I don’t feel ashamed if someone have a look inside.

I like how it turned out, I really love damasks.
