Hi, everyone! I am so excited to be participating one more month in our Intl’l Bloggers Club Challenge! If you remember, I teamed up three lovely ladies and each month we share different traditions, last month we talked about “shopping” and this month is about furniture makeover.
I found this wooden dresser roadside and obviously took it home with me. Sorry for the blurry picture but I took it more than a year ago, and all this time it was waiting for a makeover.
As soon as my daughters saw it they wanted it to be in their bedroom, so there it went. It was big, and it was perfect to store their stuff like Legos, make-up, Hama beads, loom bands and so on.
Then, the day for its makeover arrived and I knew what I wanted it to look, I wanted a faux card catalog. And you know I love to DIY on the cheap and was not willing to spend any money on it, so I used what I had already on hand and planned a drastic solution for the drawers.
The first thing I did was to draw a line on the bigger drawers. Don’t pay too much attention to the white drawer, it was a fail try with my spray gun and handmade chalk paint…
Then I took them off and laid them on the floor, and I used some clamps to keep them together. I also filled in with wood putty the scratches it had.
I also clamped a piece of scrap wood that would use as a guide and made a superficial cut with a little circular saw I have.
Time to remove the knobs, 14 to be precise and which I kept because I am using some in another project.
I prepared a mix of sawdust and glue to fill the holes.
I filled all of them and then sanded when they dried.
It was time to paint it and add the pulls I had chosen for it. I painted it with “Primitive” from DecoArt, I love that color and it’s the one I used in the headboard bench. Now, what do you say about those gorgeous pull label holders? D. Lawless Hardware provided them and I felt in love when I first saw them. It was a difficult decision, as they have so many gorgeous knobs and pulls!
The dresser needed a top and some extra thinking because it was not flat. The first thing I did was to cut some wood I had to fit, and then stained it with the vinegar technique. While it dried, I took some really thin wood and glued it on top.
I also glued the stained and white washed wood and put a LOT of weight on top to make it adhere properly. Then I filled everything with wood filler and painted it.
See? You can’t tell it wasn’t flat originally, phew!
We decided to keep it in the living room, so the girls can play with their things and it would be easier for them to pick them up. Or at least that is what I wish!
Only when you open the drawers you realize they are not the same length
I am so happy it is in the living room, way easier to drop the Lego scattered pieces I find on the floor.
I love to have my own (faux) card catalog!! It’s great not to hide the dresser into the girls room but to show and use it in the living room.

I know, if I don’t tell anyone it started as a plain dresser no one would ever know. That’s why I love so much redoing furniture, there’s hope for everything. And yes, my girls love and use it all the time!

Pili now that you have made it over it is definitely fit for the living room. It is gorgeous. I also love that color it is so warm and rich! And the wooden top makes all the difference along with the pretty knobs. A great makeover my friend. I have to pin this extra special post. You have so many tricks and tips here.
This is one of my favorite makeovers. We all agree not to sell it because it’s great to keep all my daughters’ stuff.

I didn’t want to spend any money on it, so the dummy cuts were the best thing I could think of. It is one of my favorite makeovers.
