Flower Vase Out Of Jenga Game {and Keep Kids Busy}

Hi, my sweet friends!!

Is it me or time really flies? It seems like yesterday that I was announcing you another Thrift Store Challenge but that was a month ago! As you know, a group of bloggers teamed up together to share our crafts and decor out of thrift store finds. Last month I decided to upcycle wicker baskets in 5 minutes with spray paint and they turned out lovely. This month I thought I could keep decluttering our home and used something I had laying around for quite a long time.

Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge

The Rules:

  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
  • There’s no monthly theme.
  • There’s no budget to stick to.

On a visit to my favorite shopping center aka flea market, a young girl was selling something she told me it was a game. I had no idea what it was or how to play it, but for 0,50€ I decided to bring it home with me. If my girls paid no attention to it, I could always repurpose it because it was wood.

For me, it was just a pile of wood.

I searched on Google and found out there was a similar game called Jenga. We read together how to play and tried for some time. My daughters lost interest in it and it sat forgot for some time again, so I decided to keep it for me.

One day I was playing with it and suddenly an idea struck me, I could make a vase! Really!

I told my daughter the idea I had and miss A wanted to help me. As it didn’t require any power tools or toxics I was happy she joined me 🙂 We only needed some wood glue.

First, we figured out the design we wanted and then we added a bit of glue to all the connecting parts, then let it dry.

We did the same with the rest of the pieces and let them rest flat while drying.

Once they were dry, we added some more glue to connect all of them, like in the picture below, and stuck one on top of the other.

When we finished we let it dry and took an old glass vase I had from Ikea ages ago and place it inside the wooden vase.

Isn’t it lovely?

I placed it on my desk for a while.

Then I moved it to a silver console I had in my bedroom, it looked nice on both places.

Love this new vase and I am happy I could give a new use to all those pieces from the Jenga game.

How fun! I love how something so inexpensive can be turned into something that looks so sleek and expensive. Way to go.

    • Pili says:

Reading the comments I am starting to suspect that maybe we were not playing it right… anyway, no turning back now. Glad you like it too

  2. Mary says:

Oh Pili this is the cutest idea. You got to reuse those wooden blocks in such an ingenious way. And what fun it must have been for you to put it together. It looks like such a modern high end piece now.

  3. Michelle says:

That’s just so creative Pili. We love playing Jenga at home but we’ve lost quite a few pieces somewhere or somehow 😉 Now I know what to do with them

  4. FLORENCE @ VintageSouthernPicks says:

That’s really clever Pili! Frankly, I never thought Jenga was much fun either. Someone gave me the game & I donated it…another one of the things I wish I hadn’t given away. Ugh. Your vase is beautiful! A great repurpose!

  5. Michelle James says:

Oh my gosh you are creative. I would have NEVER thought to create a vase from a jenga game. It is so nice and looks fantastic. I love that the kids could help too!

  6. Keri says:

Very creative Pili!! I love how you glued the pieces and the pattern you made. So glad your miss A could help you. It turned out beautifully!
