We have teamed together with some other crafty bloggers to present to you some great Christmas gift ideas for 2016. We all rush around the last few weeks of December to finish up some last minute crafts and gifts – this year we will start early! For the Handmade Christmas blog hop, we will share a new gift you can make each month. Plenty of time to get a few gifts made before the next gift idea comes out! Totally awesome eh? Check out what Gail has to offer next month over at Purple Hues and Me!

My gift for you in February is: Christmas decor out of scrap wood!

I have a wonderful husband, I admit it. We were home one day and he took the dog out for a walk. When he came back, he opened the door and shouted excited: look what I have for you!! I stopped what I was doing and went to see whatever he had, and saw this

Isn’t he lovely?? He was sure I could make something with it, he suggested some possibilities but the top was so damaged and I felt so lazy I didn’t consider any of them… I couldn’t take my eyes off those perfect legs.

I unscrewed them right at that moment because it was going to be easier to hide it… no way I was going to have that awful thing around the house, I had enough with the “monster“.

I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with those legs, and it was related to Christmas. We were at the begining of December by that moment, so I had plenty of time to do it. We (he) cut them in half, and I kept them in my craft room.

Without even realize it, Christmas rush was there and I couldn’t find a single moment to work on it and then… Christmas were over. Now I would be having some chopped legs laying around somewhere making me feel guilty every time I saw them. Ok, I was going to hide them.

Then one day a friend lent me a book about decluttering which I talked about here, and decided to use them or throw them away. And as I don’t like to throw things away, I did my Christmas decor in mid January. Don’t laugh, please.

I show you the process which can’t be easier. Paint the wood with chalk paint so it has a surface where the glue can adhere and cut some music sheets with the text “Merry Christmas” on then. You can download them for free.

Decoupage them on the wood, take a piece of foam and some shoe polish or brown paint and age the borders. Varnish to protect it and enjoy your masterpiece!

It is so easy and cute that I think it makes a fantastic Christmas decor. They can be great gifts too. If you are wondering how I did the red ornaments you will find the post here. If you need more Christmas inspiration you can check this and this.

See you next month over at Gail’s to see what she has for us to create! And come back every now and then to check what other bloggers have done about “Christmas Decor out of Scrap Wood”, you’ll see their links at the bottom of this post.
