I am not much online lately and also I don’t write on the blog as frequently as I used to but the reason is not I am lazy or don’t have any project to share, it’s the opposite! My problem is time… I guess as many of you. Kids are still on holidays until half September, many activities to do and this heat doesn’t help too.
If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen the picture of a bath I updated recently. Yes, my first bathromm update, yay! So today I wanted to share it with you and tell you not to be afraid to try because it’s not difficult at all.
*Warning* There are some ‘before’ pictures that can damage your eyes. If you are not willing to see an old fashioned European bathroom close your eyes and keep scrolling a bit. If you feel brave enough (and curious too) and want to see them, here they are. You have been warned.
This is the very first image I got from the bathroom I had to update. It was an old apartment I was asked to update because the owner wanted to rent it and, obviously, it wasn’t in a very nice shape… The rolls of toilet paper making balance on the stool were quite shocking too.
I am sure any time between Tutankhamon and nowadays there was a bulkhead shower there, but only the frame remained there. It made no sense keeping it there because it was gross, I will save you pictures… you are welcome.
Maybe you are thinking if the post title is wrong, is it really possible to update a bathroom like this easily? Yes, you can do it. Here’s another picture, sorry for the bad quality because it was a small bathroom with no natural light.
Ready to see the after? Today I will not share the how to of everything but I promise to post each of them. Just stay tuned.
I used tile paint to cover the outdated tiles and I looooove it! I had serious doubts regarding its durability and adhesion, but it surprised me. It dries as a rock and you can clean it normally. Again, I will write a blog post about painting tiles and some tips I have for you. Regarding the paint, I bought it from my local home improvement store, but you can get it online too
They were shut-off valves placed right on top of the sanitary… don’t ask me why, you can check again the ‘before’ pictures, and I decided to hide them.
I nice towel rack and rolling cart were added too. I promise it is easier to update the bathroom than to take good pictures of it
Being on an island, I wanted to add some nautical touches and I found two frames which I painted and added cute shell prints. If you like them you will find them at The Painted Hive.
Here’s the other side of the bathroom, the tub is free of that disgusting frame.
The curtain shower was already in the bathroom and it was in good shape so I kept it. White and perfect for a small bathroom.
I decided to build the floating vanity shelf and mirror myself, as the dimensions made it really difficult to find something and also it is much cheaper to build it than to buy it 😉
I took this picture from outside of the bathroom so you can have an idea on how big it is.

Pili that paint is a life saver. To be able to paint over tiles and then be able to clean them is truly great. The paint totally transforms the room and makes it look light and airy.
OH MY GOODNESS Pili this is such an amazing transformation you´ve done! Please, please, I need to know how you made it and that mirror and sink I love both! It did look shocking before but now it´s so so so pretty. And the tiles, just wow! Now that we bought our house I´d like to update our bathrooms too and that paint might be just what I need. Please come to Puerto and help me!!!
Pili it is really a gorgeous transformation! I had decide to paint the tiles also in my new rental home but their condition was not very good so I replaced them with big pieces of marble. Your bathroom looks so airy and fresh now! Excellent work once more my dear friend 🙂
I can’t tell you how many times I scrolled up and down to see the before and afters, and I’m still in awe of the transformation PIli. Oh girl, you totally out did yourself with this makeover. It is beautiful.

Why on God’s green earth did you put that shelf right there to the right of the toilet? Did you think this through thoroughly before you did that? Yea, I know it was to cover that pipe.. but a shelf, right there. Did you take a seat on that toilet after you put the shelf there?

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it. Yes you are right, I covered the pipe with that little shelf. First I measured the length and wide I would need, and yes I sat on the toilet before securing it there. In fact, I made my husband sit there too because he’s twice my size and he said it didn’t bother him.
Pili, you’ve done a really good job here. The improvement is huge considering you did spend much. I especially love the new sink and surround.
