Anyone who calls himself thrifty or junkie love visiting flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales or even dive in dumpsters. I haven’t literally dived into dumpsters (yet) but I manage to find great stuff right behind them. What I really love to do is visit flea markets and haggle with vendors, finding treasures waiting for a new life and then show them to my family. Can you believe sometimes they don’t show the same excitement I do? I know, I can’t believe it either.

This was exactly what happened the day I arrived home showing them this little gem.

It used to be a light wall sconce from a hotel and as soon as I spotted it I knew what I wanted to do with it. It was only 1€ so why not to try!

The first thing I did was clean it and taking it apart.

I used some wood filler for the hole it had.

Once the wood filler was dry I sanded and painted everything with Americana Decor, I chose the color “Timeless”. After the paint dried I distressed the edges a bit.

Then the Metallic Lustre came to the rescue, I love this stuff so so much! A little bit goes a long way and I only wanted some highlights so I used my finger to apply it. I slightly dipped it into the cream and rubbed it along the edges.

Look at that shine!!

I hung it to see how it looked on the wall, and love it. I was planning to use it in on apartment I am decorating but now I like it so much I’m not sure if it will go or stay

I took an empty jar and added some flowers to see how it looked.

Then I switched to the original plan which was to use it as a candle wall sconce.

Right now I am not sure which I like more… Anyway, it’s easy to change from one to another.

Which one do you like most, with flowers or for candles? I’d love to hear your thoughts about it.

And now for more thrifty goodness!

Good on you for seeing the potential Pili, it turned out beautifully. I really like the flowers but the candles also works really well. It’s just perfect either way.

You are not going to believe this but my father showed me something similar the other day. Haha! You and my dad should get together. I love what you did with it Pili. The paint jut freshens it up and makes it look all new but in a rustic way. I too love those paints and the lustre is the best product. I have to admit it is hard to decide which is better the vase or the candle holder. I guess it depends on your mood.

I think I will visit you once you move to NY… that way we can drive your dad crazy lol. Does he have one light wall sconce or you were just shopping?

    • Pili says:

It was my first thought too but then I added the flowers to style it and the doubt came… Thanks for stopping by Jodie!

I am often met with a blank stare when I bring my thrift finds home so I know the feeling well. You new wall sconce is just lovely. I really like the colors and products you used! How nice that you can use it different ways too! I like the flowers.

I had it long ago but I didn’t find the perfect piece to use it. Now I’m on the look for something else to upcycle and use it

    • Pili says:

Hey Keri! This stuff is really awesome. Now I’m looking for frames or things where I can use it again.
