DIY Minion Planter

Hi, everyone!

Welcome to another series of our Int’l Bloggers Challenge! That time when we meet together and share what we do from different parts of the world. Last month we did a fabric project and I shared my nautical uphostered bench

We are finally enjoying good weather and we love being outdoors rearranging plants and planter. Just the other day we went out with the girls to walk the dog and we found next to the garbage dumpster two tyres. Ahem, ahem.

Walking with two children and a dog, it seemed a bit excessive to pick up two tyres, but when they saw them they started jumping all excited and told me to took them home to be a companion for the lonely tyre our dog had adopted.

Here’s so good that even allows our daughters to put caps, sunglasses, tiaras…

Little Miss S loves to play with him… obvious, right?

I’m easy going regarding junk, I know … Well, being two girls and two wheels the process was simple, each of them rolled his own tyre its way home, with the added luck that we did not meet any neighbor. What more can we ask for?!

That afternoon we went shopping because we had already decided what to do with all three tyres. Yes, we left Pinxo (our dog) without his. We bought some spray paint and I must tell I am a fan because it is fast and the finish is perfect!

From here and throughout the whole process of spray painting I did it alone, as we only had a mask and security is our priority.

As you will see no explanation is needed because it is very simple, but I’ll give you anyway.

First thing to do is to protect the surface where you are going to paint the tyre, and protect it well without skimping on paper or plastic unless you want a nice stencil on the ground ….

Tyre

You need to spray about 20 cm away, giving light passes. Do not let the spray fixed on a spot or you’ll end up with spirts of paint.

Repeat the process with all tyres.

On one of the tyres, we cut some newspaper to make a stencil and change the color in some areas.

As we had to wait for the paint to dry, we headed to a small forest we have very close to our house and that it has an abandoned house. The slats of the broken shutters would be great to fill our tyre, as well as some plastic bottles.

At home and once placed the timber, we filled the tyre with soil. Then we took a lid and draw a black circle. We were about to have our DIY Minion planter ready!

At home and once placed the timber, we filled the tyre with soil. After that, I painted a black circle in the middle of the lid.

The last thing was to attach the lid and a black ribbon around the tyre, and add some plants if I call them that… I know, I know, I need to improve my gardening skills!

And now we enjoy of our DIY Minion planter in a corner of our garden 🙂

I hope you like it as much as we do!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Hugs,

Pili

I have tires waiting to be painted for planters – but this makes me think of how I could ‘decorate’ them. I don’t know if my Other Half would enjoy Minions all over the yard, lol. It’s cute!

    • Pili says:

Our yard is quite small so there’s no room to have too many planters. My “other half” is now used to my craziness lol

Great use of tyres! I’m making a minion birthday cake for my grandson – they are pretty popular at the moment. Thanks for sharing with us at #WednesdaysWisdom

    • Pili says:

Yes, Minions are really popular… although my mum has no idea what the are. She says the planter is a bit strange 😉
