Picture Frame Makeover

I’m so excited for another month of the thrift store decor upcycle challenge. I joined this amazing group last year and had fun making over so many things… last month it was a light wall sconce. I was amazed at all of the brilliant upcycle ideas all of the other ladies came up with and I can’t wait to see their projects this month.

The Rules:

  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.

I don’t know what I have with picture frames but it seems I attract them. I have lots of them at home but keep finding more and who can say no to a picture frame?

I got some from my mother in law house, and turn them into some romantic pictures for our bedroom. Then some time ago I found a second-hand shop with so many cool things I ended up buying more than I had planned. The guy was very nice and he gave me this picture frame for free. Anything free makes me happy!

I wanted to make a gift for a friend and I thought that something for her son would be nice.

I removed everything and painted the frame with an aqua color. I kept the white passe-partout and glass for another project. While it dried I took some styrofoam I had and traced the letter J which is the initial of his name.

Then I looked for some scrapbook paper and found this yellow-ish color which would contrast with the aqua. I used Elmer’s glue to glue the paper on the styrofoam.

The last thing was to write the kid’s name -Jan- and print it over the scrapbook paper. The font I used is H&B Sketch.

Finally, I glued the letter and it ended up looking like this. She told me he liked it, and I like it as well!

And now for more thrifty goodness!

Check out what my fellow upcyclers created below!

Thanks for stopping by!
