Repurposed Old Game Tray

Hi, my sweet friends!!

How many of you love repurposed stuff at home? I do. It’s not just that I like to bring back to life old things, it’s also a must in a crazy home like mine! I have a love/hate relationship with organizing… I mean, I love when everything is in its place (which doesn’t happen too often), not having to jump over pillows on the floor, being able to close a door without destroying a fort, vacuuming the floor and not worrying about swallowing thousands of little Lego pieces… and at the same time I enjoy having the girls around.

I think that when the girls grow up it will be different so I choose now to let them be free and happy, and I just have to find ways to create order inside the disorder. But, having all those tiny little Lego things scattered over the living room floor wasn’t helping me too much to keep my plan…

Then, one day I was driving and saw this old hockey game tray. I stopped the car and took it home with me, I didn’t know what I was going to do with it but it was free!

And some days after the idea stroke me, I could make a multi-purpose tray for the girls. It had the perfect size to use with the Legos; they could be playing on the living room table and when we needed the table it would be easy to have it clear and empty.

When empty, it could be a big chalkboard to write or draw! I did it using the DIY version of chalk paint.

And this is how my free find saved my life!!

I would love to know how you deal with your kids’ toys.

You can check some other of my projects if you want.

Hugs,

Oh Pili, I love the idea of the chalk board and a play board. My grandchildren would love this. Thanks for sharing with us at #AnythingGoes and see you next week!

What a great repurpose! I often do that too….buy (or take free) things with no real idea of just what I’ll end up doing with them, that way they’re on hand for when inspiration strikes! I love how you upcycled it into something more useful for your family! Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Merry Monday! 🙂

Yes, you’re right Christine, inspiration strikes in any moment and we have to be prepared. Thanks for stopping by again!

Hi, Jamie! I’m all day looking for things to re-purpose, even my friends bring me things they don’t use anymore… Thanks for hosting!

What a great idea! My daughter would really love this and it would be so handy at keeping those legos from being scattered. Looks like it would be a really fun project to do too!

Pili, this is perfect! I love a tray on our ottomans that serve as a table in the livingroom, as well as seating. This would be perfect, plus we can write each other notes or keep score for a card game! Not only are you not stepping on those cursed legos anymore, I’m looking for hubby to make me a tray like this! Thanks.

Nikki, I’m so happy this can inspire you to make something useful for your home! Let’s get hubby work!

What a simple yet such a GREAT idea Pili! I love things that can take on a new life! As far as the kid’s toys, they do end up everywhere, but thankfully we don’t have too many so before bed, my boys (ages 3 and 1) do a quick run through of the house to put toys away in the toy bin. It allows me to breathe better at night and give the morning a fresh start! Thanks for sharing at Talented Tuesday.
    Cheers,
    Aspen Jay

AJ, I think we must talk! I need to know how you get your boys to put toys away before bed… If only it was so easy for me as making a tray… but I’m sure sometime I will succeed!
      Hugs!

Great idea Pili! My kids toys are usually played with on their floors but they always forget some pieces when they tidy up, especially Lego! Thanks for linking up Thriving on Thursdays. Hope to see you tomorrow!

    • Pili says:

Anne, there are some toys that seem to have its own life, as Legos!! You can find a little piece in the most strange place… This is helping us not get totally mad!!
      See you tomorrow!

  10. Sam // DIY Just Cuz says:

Wow what a clever idea – you definitely love yourself a good upcycle don’t you? Haha! I think any way to gather all the toys in one area is a hit with me, and making it a chalkboard at the bottom is the final touch to make this perfect. Thanks for sharing at Welcome Home Wednesday!

    • Pili says:

Haha Sam, I think you know me very well!! Yes, I do love a good upcycle!! And I can tell you this tray has helped me not getting mad anymore with the Legos
