Rustic Tin Vase On The Cheap

Hi, my sweet friends!

Welcome to the April Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop! Yay! I guess you saw my last month’s post for the challenge, it was my kitchen makeover. But if you are new to the blog you may not know what I am talking about so let me explain it.

The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! So this month, I chose to make something with tins.

Do you think there is a house that has no empty tins? I don’t think so. At least in my case, I have lots of empty tins, most of them of paint and from time to time of food. I don’t really buy canned food but my husband sometimes does, like this tin.

Some times my creativity goes on vacation and I end up on Pinterest looking for some ideas, and I found so many beautiful ones that the problem was choosing only one.

I had done a fabric wrapped tin some time before but this time I wanted something different. This post may contain affiliate links for your convenience, you can read the full disclosure here.

I found this beautiful rustic tin vase from an Etsy shop.

Then I saw another easy but lovely idea using doily and burlap. That is what I call a rustic tin vase! The source is unknown but if anyone knows the author I’d love to hear and give proper credit.

Finally Natalie, from NorthShore Days, made some pretty rustic tin cans and I fell in love with them. She’s talented and she even added a wire handle, but I preferred to have it plain. You can see her picture below.

How to make your own rustic tin vase

Here’s a list of materials you will need in case you want to make your own.

First of all, I painted it white using my homemade chalk paint because I was going to decoupage a napkin and I didn’t want the picture showing through.

Then, I printed the quote on a nakpin using my home printer. If you want to see how to print on napkins click here. I glued it to the tin with a mixture of white glue and water in a 50-50 ratio.

Then I used some glue to add the twine to the tin.

I added some twine to give it a rustic look, and it was done!! All I needed to do now was adding some flowers.

I added some flowers and I had my rustic tin vase ready!

Hydrangeas are my favorite.

I am a huge fan of recycling and tin cans are one of my favorites. You can transform a plain one, no matter how is looking right now in a rustic tin vase for your home decor.

Again, this is another quick and low-cost craft you can do to add some decor to your house, I hope you enjoy my rustic tin vase as much as me!

Hugs,

Pili

Love it! Now I know what to try with my next empty coffee tin Pili! The quote is so nice and the twine makes it really rustic – love rustic!

We have plenty of tins, Katrin, we better be creative and upcycle them, or they will bury us!

I love twine too, Mary. When I decided to clean and tidy my craft room I found I have 3 rolls of twine so I need to use them!

your makeover of the can is darling. I’m new to your blog but plan to take some time to look around. And, you’re right about tin cans, they seem to appear from nowhere and start breeding.

This looks fantastic Pili, so simple but yet looks wonderful. It makes me wonder why people buy expensive vases when you can make something much nicer and more unique.

I would never guess that this was a tin for food! It is so adorable! I love the quote and the twine. It’s perfect. And once you add the flowers it would be a wonderful gift, even if just for yourself!!!

So curious about the napkin printing and will be following that link soon. Great idea and so versatile. Has me thinking about gift ideas.

My daughter is looking for sweet, informal table decor for her wedding in June. This would be just perfect. Love the jute, the perfect quote and those gorgeous hydrangeas.

If I can snag a couple cans before Mr.Furry takes them out to recycle bin will try to make couple like yours. Loved all cans you showed us, all wonderful, cute ideas.. So nice they are all affordable and easy to make. yay.
About only thing we eat out of cans are beans so next time will keep cans before they disappear out to recycle bin.
    Happy daze Pili

It is a good sign you don’t have too many cans because it means you don’t eat too much processed/canned food. I have all my friends collecting cans and jars for me, even some rescue furniture from the trash. That is what I call friendship lol.
I hope you have luck salvaging some from the recycle bin.
Thanks so much for stopping by JaneEllen

This is so lovely. I don’t eat canned food but every year have to stock up for hurricane season. Usually, after hurricane season I donate it. I may have to keep a few cans now.
