Shabby Wooden Jewelry Storage

Hi my sweet friends!!

You know how much I like go thrift shopping, so today I am going to show you what I did to a wooden jewelry storage I bought some time ago. It was not shabby at all, although I knew I wanted that look for it. But, as most of the time, I buy things and then they sit for quite a while until I finish some of the other million projects I have on hand.

Then some friends and I decided to play Secret Pal, and I thought that would be a beautiful gift for her. My head started to think what to do.

This is how it looked like when I bought it… well, the white knob wasn’t there but I took a picture of the “before” right after having fixed it. Just imagine the picture with a hole on the drawer.

I had no idea how to fix it and I thought that using homemade polymer clay should be ok. At least, when the girls do ornaments with it, they dry hard.  I made some clay, took a little piece to make the knob, and left the rest for the girls to play with.

Here’s the knob, not to bad!

The lowest drawer had a missing corner, so I took some more dough from the girls and fixed it as well.

I waited until the dough dried completely, and painted it white with chalk paint.

I wanted something special for my friend, so I designed an ornament with her initials, and decoupaged it on each drawer.

Then I applied clear wax and dark wax to age it a bit.

As I was going to apply some napkins with flowers on it, I tried to print on a napking another design I did. It worked awesome!! You only need to tape all napkin with the sheet below it, to prevent from get stuck inside the printer.

I made several sizes for future projects.

At this point, I cut the napkins and glued them with ModPodge onto the drawer. I also took some brown shoe polish and applied it with a sponge through all the edges.

The last step was to give it two coats of varnish, and it was ready!

I had a great time doing it, although working with napkins was a bit challenging for me. I will keep practicing!

Hope you like it as much as I do!

Hugs,

Pili

What a great re-do! I would have passed the box up at the thrift store because of the broken drawer front. Your polymer clay fix was genius. As was the printing on the napkin part. Love it!

It was so cute that I had to take it home with me, the solution would come up eventually. And printing on the napking is so fun! Thanks for taking the time to comment
