Some Great Ways to Spend Your ‘Me Time’

Hi guys!

This and last week have been really productive for me, it’s great to have my husband back at home and the girls and enjoying spending some time with daddy. I’ve caught up with some projects I’ve procrastinated for too long and now I only need to find the time to share them on the blog.

If I tell you that it takes more time to write a blog post than the project itself, would you believe me? Then believe me because it’s true. I’m happy I didn’t know how much time is involved in blogging before I started the blog, because then I may have thought about it twice.

Anyway, I’m happy sharing all my crazy ideas and help you find some inspiration to make your own things, and I really really love receiving feedback from you.

Also, if you have kids as I do, you probably don’t get too much time to yourself. Then, when you get some, you miss the kids and don’t know what to do with it. I believe getting some time alone is incredibly important. Being a mother, whether you work or stay at home, is exhausting. It’s the one job you never get time off from. Here are some great things to do for yourself, when you get a chance. You may find some affiliate links for your convenience, you can read the full disclosure here.

Read a Book

Reading a book is a great way to escape from the real world. Leave all your own stresses behind and immerse yourself in a different world. Reading for pleasure isn’t something we often have time for once we have children, especially while they are young. So, make the most of it when you can.

You can go to a library and borrow them, or if you don’t have one close to you then you can order some online. Amazon or eBay are great places to browse. I personally prefer paper books, I love having them in my hands, their smell but I know some other people prefer digital books.

Start a Blog

Blogging is a fantastic way to meet new people, learn new skills, and catalog your experiences. It can also be a way to make a little extra money. New parenting or DIY and lifestyle blogs start every day, so there are lots of people to help you get started and you could make some great friends.

Take a Course

Learning is always a wonderful thing, and we often appreciate it much more as we get older. Online courses make a great option for moms, and you can do almost anything. A master of education in adult and continuing education could lead to an exciting career, or you could take a course on blogging, or even something related to one of your hobbies.

Try a Craft

Crafting is a great way to pass the time and it can give you a great sense of pride. You could make things as gifts for friends and family, or even to sell on Etsy. Even if you have no artistic skills, have a go at some adult coloring in, which is incredibly relaxing.

Get Some Exercise

Exercise is a great use of your time alone. We all need to get some exercise, but when you’ve got young children it’s hard to make it a priority. If your children are very young, start slowly, perhaps with some long walks, before building up to a couch to 5k program. Swimming is another great exercise for beginners and anyone out of practice. Exercise will help you maintain a healthy weight, decrease your risk of both long and short-term illnesses, improve your confidence, and reduce your stress levels.

Catch Up with Friends

Friends are another thing we have a lot less time for once we have children. Close friends won’t mind if you don’t see them for weeks or even months at a time. But, if you can, making time for your friends can be one of the best ways to relax. Chat or have some fun, and remember who you are.

Play an Instrument or Go Dancing

Whether you have a partner or not, you can take some dancing lessons or just dance for pleasure. If you like music, you may want to learn to play an instrument. It is a great way to release stress as you are focused on what you are doing. I recently found I love playing the djembe and I’m taking lessons with some friends from an African guy who is amazing.

Whatever you choose to do, don’t feel guilty about it. We all need some time for ourselves sometimes. It’ll make you a better, more focused mother. If you choose to spend this time doing absolutely nothing, that’s fine, too. Sometimes I plan things in advance and I end up filling the bathtub enjoying the hot water and the silence. Just flow with what you feel you want to do.

What about you? How do you like to spend your ‘me time’?

Have a wonderful week!

Hugs,

Pili

Pili, it’s like you’re reading my mind. I definitely identified with what you wrote about. I would love to sit down and read a book, but when? It’s like you said, I just need to carve out that time and make it intentional. I too like having a physical book in hand, there’s just something about it isn’t there? That’s really cool that you’re taking djembe lessons! Maybe you can make a video so we can hear you playing. 🙂 These are all great suggestions and I’m definitely going to sit down and schedule in some me time.

What fun Pili and you’re so right about taking time out for yourself. It not always easy with all the things that need to be done but it’s so important. P.S. I second Keri’s idea of taking a video, I’d love to see you play the djembe 😉
