Floral Stool Makeover

Hi all!! I really love a good furniture makeover, so every time I am driving and pass through any bin I turn my head to check if there is something I can collect. I am not the only one doing that, right?

Well, one of those days I found this stool. I stopped the car, open the trunk which thankfully was empty and got the stool. Someone had tried to paint it with little success, it was full with woodworm and the seat needed a change. Only that? No problem, easy job.

I took everything off, treated the woodworm hole by hole and left it wrapped in a plastic bag for 40 days. I know, that is the worst part of a project involving bugs… if I wasn’t so impatient there would be no problem. The day 41 I unwrapped it and painted it with chalk paint (this time the original Annie Sloan). I had a beautiful piece of fabric I bought some time ago, and I used it to upholster it.

This is the new one. What do you think? Do you like it?

Hi Lucy! I found the fabric in a shop and I felt in love with it so I bought a large piece and waited for the right occasion to use it. Thanks for stopping by and comment!

    Pili,

Your stool make over is so pretty! I’m curious to know why the bag helps get rid of the bugs? We would love to have you stop by our Dream. Create. Inspire. Link! Party and share your projects! It gets started tonight at 7pm CST. I hope we’ll see you there!

Hi Cat! When you have a piece of furniture affected by woodwarm, the first thing to do is to treat it with a special product to kill the bugs. The best way is to take a syringe, inject the product into the vial, place the needle inside a hole and push the plunger of the syringe so the product gets into the hole… then repeat all over the billion holes it may have. The plastic bag is used after this previous step, and its use is: 1) avoid the woodworm to get out 2)make it choke. If there are eggs it takes some weeks to become larvae, and they are the ones responsible for eating the wood. That’s why we have to wrap the piece with plastic in quarantine (it means 40 days).
I’ll see you tomorrow morning at the party, as I am based in Spain and at 7pm your time I’ll be dreaming! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and take the time to comment!

Hi, Pili ~ Beautiful makeover! I’m not a fan of bugs, but I’m a huge fan of saving nearly trashed pieces. I’ve never heard of woodworm before, but I’m glad I heard it from you first (rather than finding those buggers in a project). Thanks for sharing with us at the Merry Monday Link Party!

    • Pili says:

Hi Tiffany, glad you like it! If you live in a cold area it is very probable you won’t find any piece affected by woodwarm; they need mild temperatures to survive. But you’re lucky not having to treat them.
      Thanks for stopping by!

I love those spindles-so like a Jenny Lind bed I once had. The dusty blue is beautiful with your cabbage rose fabric!

Hi Kim! Here in Spain is quite frequent to find furniture with this helical shape, I love it! Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!

Pili, What an incredible transformation!!! I love it. It looks like brand new. The milk paint looks great, soft, like the fabric. I too watch as I drive around on trash day, you never know what someone else is getting rid of, a little elbow grease and it’s a treasure! Thanks for sharing at #WAYWOW

    • Pili says:

Nikki is good to know I’m not the only one looking for trash! Thanks for stopping by and see you next weet at the party

    • Pili says:

Christine believe me if I tell you I have NO patience!! But if any little piece of wood infected by woodworm gets in contact with any other furniture it will be affected as well so no way I was allowing that to happen!! I took the stool out of my sight and then it was really easy to handle the impatience 😉

Hi, Nikki! I have to apologize for the late reply, it’s been a crazy month… But I’m really happy you like it too, I really love stools, they always look great with a bit of love.

    • Pili says:

I agree, Stella, chairs or stools are the worst things to paint for me. But when I see it finish I don’t remember all the work… it’s like birth giving 😉
      Thanks for stopping by!
