Halloween is around the corner and now it’s the perfect time to start making some easy Halloween decor and prepare the party. Here in Mallorca there are so many foreigners Halloween is quite a big celebration, and children go from house to house knocking at the doors and yelling “Trick or Treat”. We like to prepare our entryway with original things, and we love to see kids’ faces when we open the door and they see us disguised and with more spooky things inside. We keep things from one year to another, but we always add new things to surprise them.
Something that gets everyone’s attention are the tombstones. They are made with large slabs of Styrofoam, we cut them to size, shaped them as we liked, and then spray painted. The curious thing about this type of paint with on this material is that it literally carves it, and instead of having a smooth surface it makes holes, so it seems we have real tombstones! On one of them we did grooves with a pen cap and then used a white crayon to add depth. And yes, the epitaph is a little macabre, I know … but it’s Halloween!
Then the girls remembered the Wizard of Oz, and the house that dropped on the wicked witch and we tried to recreate the scene. It was so fun!! We took an old cushion, emptied it and filled with it a pair of tights Miss A had. We added some black tape around, and my red shoes. We also made a trip to the forest to collect some twigs and made two brooms.
As we had enough foam from the pillow, we stretched it and made a kind of spider web.
As we still had styrofoam scraps, we used them to make some signs.
With some cardboard boxes from the supermarket we cut some letters to make a BOO sign. Really easy. I cut them and the girls glued some paper we had found on internet. We added a ribbon and hung it from the door.
But we like to see inside the house Halloween is coming too, so we decorate it as well. And you know me, things have to be as thrifty as possible! You may have seen I collect all bottles and jars to recycle them, so we had still some. We spray painted them black, and added some cute labels from Marilyn. We still had some foam left, the pillow was huge, so we made more spider web. The girls cut some bats and attached to it. And finally one of the things I like most… the book of spells. You can grab it from Heather, she does so many wonderful things, just check her site.
These pictures were so easy! Miss S was in charge of them. I gave her a big garbage bag which she cut in half, and wrapped our big pictures with it. Then we printed some spooky portraits and with double sided tape attached them. I told you, thrifty decor! If you want to see how they normally look, you can see them here.
We are still working on some more Halloween things to do, hope I can share them with you shortly.
What about you? Do you do something special for Halloween?
If you liked it you can Pin It to make it later!
Hugs,
Pili

Hello Pili,
Wow you all did a great job with all of your DIY Halloween decorations! I love the witches feet, and the boo sign! I enjoyed looking at it all.
I hope you enjoy your week. Wishing you all a wonderful Halloween too.
Julie
Hi, Julie. Thanks so much, we enjoyed a lot doing it. The grown ups laugh at the witches feet 😉
These are so funny. You guys have such a great sense of humor, from the harsh tombstone to the witches legs. Ha ha ha…. I love your creativity here, and the fact that you get the girls involved in it, it makes it all the more special. Your hallway is full of surprises. Is this outside your door or in the apartment? Then you ‘ll be scaring them even before they walk in. Love everything about this!!
Yes Mary, it’s outside the door. As soon as a new season or celebration is coming, we start to decorate it adding new things as soon as we finish them. The neighbours smile when they saw them, I think they believe we’re crazy ha ha! But we don’t mind
I really love these ideas!
Thanks for joining Cooking and Crafting with J & J!
Thank you, Jess!
Love these, it’s not surprising they are popular. I love the Wizard of Oz addition too….I bet it creates a few laughs at the front door!
Thanks for linking up to Marvelous Monday on Smart Party Planning.
Yes it does, Catherine! Thanks for stopping by!
Pili, can you move to Puerto???? Please??? I want you as my neighbour! Not that my neighbours aren’t nice, but here in our street no one celebrates. I decorate a bit but I love your deco!!! Those tombstones are spoooktacular!!! I’d love to come by with my girls and trick or treat at your door!! A quick flight to Mallorca maybe….
That would be great, Katrin!! Flights are not so expensive this time of the year, it would be so fun! Seriouly
We don’t celebrate Halloween here and that’s such a shame – I love this!
We’re starting to celebrate more here, and we really have fun!

What fun decorations you have created for Halloween and so economical! So nice that you have your kids involved in making them. I love the “pickled mice” and other black jars – so dramatic!
My kids really love to craft, I’ll have them soon here at the blog!
Thanks for the visit, Lori!

Hi, Linda! With kids, anything is enough!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a spooky weekend!
What a super spooky and awesome job you did!! The tombstones are so cool, I can’t believe you made them from scratch. And of course that’s a pretty cool book cover too ; ) Thank you for sharing!!
Hi, Heather!! Glad you stopped by! Haha, you’re right, the book cover is just gorgeous! And the tombstones are really easy to make.
Have a spooky weekend!
Wow Pili. You make so much effort for Halloween. I don’t decorate at all, but maybe because we have no kids in the house, The tombstones look great, I love the witches legs trapped under there. What a clever idea.
Thanks for linking up to #LifeLovingLinkie – Happy Halloween to you and your family, may it be full of treats 🙂

Sally, thanks so much for your comments, you’re so kind!
I agree, I wouldn’t decorate as much if I hadn’t kids, and they love the witches legs.
Happy Halloween for you too! 🙂
The tombstone is amazing. Now I have an idea what I’m gonna do for halloween. It’s easy to keep away after halloween too.
Thank you so much, Ellie. The tombstone is one of people’s favorite, and it’s really easy to keep away too.
How awesome is this decoration!!! I love everything.
Those legs are quite scary.
Thanks for sharing your incredible creations on #tiptuesday, Pili!
Thank you Debbie! My girls love the legs, they sing “ding dong the witch is dead”…

Thanks for stopping by, Sandy!
I love it all! I hope that you all had a great Halloween! The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies ever, I love the witches legs sticking out from under the tombstone! Did her wicked sister come visit trying to get the ruby slippers back? Or perhaps a flying monkey or 2? You really did it all up with the decor, I love it all!!! And the stripes on the wall under the family photos? Love it!!!
Thank you Nikki! My girls love the legs, they sing “ding dong the witch is dead”… haha. But no, we didn’t have the visit of her sister. Some Dutch friends came, he disguised himself as a hunchback and we played some creepy music while opening the door. You should have seen kids faces!! I haven’t laughed so hard from quite long!
I will share our wall in some other post… it was a surprise for my husband
you are supeeer creative! I admire you for that..I am really down with my work but I hope I can try some of your fantastic tips and DIY 🙂

Great decorations! Thanks for linking to #frifree4all
Thanks, Hayley!!
Oh my Pili, I love the decorations. Where do I even start? The tombstones are brilliant. It’s always so frustrating when paint does that to Styrofoam, but you totally made it work and those potion bottles and the book of spells. Just Wow!!! And that poor witch, love the stockings and the shoes. The girls must had so much fun putting everything together.
I agree, the first time I spray painted on Styrofoam and saw it melting away my face was like what??? But it gives a cool effect for the tombstones.
The girls really enjoy doing this kind of things!!
Pili, it sounds like you and your girls had so much fun making these decorations, what great memories!! You’re super creative! I bet your neighbors love ringing your doorbell for candy and seeing all your Halloween decor!
We’ll see how the new neighbors react, lol. I can’t wait to see their faces!
