French Inspired Writing Set

Hi all!

I’m happy with few things, and one of these things is go shopping. I know, now you will tell me that you are also happy when shopping, but I mean thrift shopping. I just love walking by flea markets, looking for little treasures to be discovered, talking to people about them and for the fun of bargaining for that special item. I could spend hours there!

One of those days my husband and my girls decided to come with me, so there we went. I stopped to have a look at some gorgeous finds while the rest of the family kept walking. When I reached them I was really excited about what I just bought for 1 € and showed it to them… I can’t describe their faces, but I guess you can make an idea looking at this

Yes, exactly, that’s the same face they had! A face like what-is-that?? But I had a vision in my head and I was not seeing the blue glued paper it had, or the kind of cracked paint effect someone tried to achieve.

It took me two layers of paint stripper to get rid of all that paint. Then I used white DIY chalk paint to leave it completely white, decoupaged a piece of script paper, stamps and butterflies, and wrote the names of Timbres (which mean Stamps) and Papiers (which is Papers) with a pen.

I aged it a bit with some black paint on a sponge all over the corners, two coats of varnish all over and it was done! Do you like french style decor items?

What do you think? Is it worth what I paid for?

Hugs,

Pili

Pili, It is worth 50 times what you paid for it. And I’m sure that your family must have been equally surprised. It looks nothing at all like the before. It takes a special eye to see the hidden beauty in things.

Thank you so much Mary, they were surprised indeed. It’s easy for me sometimes to see what I want to do, but sometimes it takes months until I have one idea…

French-inspired items always speak to me. And stationery also speaks to me. So your combination of French inspiration and a stationery holder grabbed my attention. You did a great job transforming the neglected piece into a real treasure.

Many thanks, Kikki. In fact I sell almost everything I do. If I didn’t we should go out of the house because there wouldn’t be room for us!

What a fabulous transformation. Isn’t it great when you purchase something for a song and then make it into something so wonderful. You have a wonderful design eye.
