From Monster to French Flair Crates

Hi, all!

We’re still having wonderful weather here; the girls are swimming in the pool and having a great time playing with some neighbors. The water is cold for me, so what would be better that sitting under a palm tree watching them play and writing some posts? Well, I can think of several things that could be much better but this is what we have right now, and I’m thankful for all.

Before I show you my post today I want to warn you all there’s an image that could be quite awful and  I can understand if you decide to never come back to read my posts.

You’ve been warned.

It was Saturday evening, around 8 pm when I realized I hadn’t gone to the supermarket to buy some things I needed for the next day. I took the van and decided to change my usual route and take another road. And there it was, standing beside the dumpster. I stopped the car, looked right and left, front and back, there was nobody. I opened the rear door and look again around me. Nobody. It seemed it was in a good shape but it was so dark and I didn’t want anyone to see me that I didn’t open the doors. It was really heavy so I cursed just a bit while trying to lift it and put in on the van. Done. A little more looking around me and nobody again, phew!!

Now, can you imagine my husband’s face when I said, “honey, I have something in the car, I need you help” and he saw that inside of the car?

But now you have to imagine MY face when we had the thing in the middle of our living room and I opened the doors.

I had warned you. You have to thank seeing it in a picture, a bad quality & night light picture. Also, while I was in the road trying to get it inside the car I broke the marble, so any thoughts I had about using it disappeared. Now a had a filthy broken thing in my living room with no idea what to do with it, but for sure I was going to do something!

I started to take it all apart, I kept the doors for any future project and the drawers had possibilities too.

When they were all ripped off they were so cute I thought adding some plants inside would be a great idea. I painted them white and add a little transfer at the front. You can read a full tutorial on how to make a transfer.

From Monster to French Flair Crates

I really love these crates!! They are worth all the effort to take the monster home with me.

What about you? Do you collect things from the dumpster?

Hugs,

Pili

You had me on the floor laughing with the monster. These are so cute! No, not just cute but very original and elegant. No one will ever guess where you got them from. I can’t wait to see what you are going to do with the rest of it.

    • Pili says:

Well, I didn’t dare to tell the woman who bought both where they came from… Hope she never finds this post!

  2. Beverly says:

People who can look at something like this in such bad condition and then create something lovely amaze and inspire me! The crates are lovely.
I’m so glad you’re sharing on Snickerdoodle. Pinned and Tweeted.

Oh My Heart Girl, well in the night and not seeing what you had, you turned some of this into a beautiful project. I love it and thank you for sharing on the Oh My Heartsie Girl, this week.

I really enjoy seeing what you can tackle and what turns out!!! Maybe you should change your route all the time, never know what you might come up with.

    Have a great week, Karren

    • Pili says:

Many thanks, Karren! I’m at the party with you every week so you’ll be seeing more of my crazy projects.

      Have a great week too!

I, too, have taken things in the night when they looked great. It’s so fun to find “treasure”. I love whta you turned it into even better than the cabinet itself. YAY. Pinned to repurpose. Will also be shared on Facebook sometime today or tomorrow. Best wishes to you, Linda @Crafts ala mode

Hi Pili, thanks so much for leaving me a sweet comment on my blog Little Brags. I tried to reply to your comment directly but you came up as a non reply blogger. I could not leave you a message on Google Plus either, no message board was displayed there.
The white crate is super cool by the way!!! xoxoxo

    • Pili says:

Christine, I added you to Google +, I don’t know what happened with my comment in your blog, I just learn new things every day! Thanks for stopping by and your kind comments 🙂

  6. Erlene says:

My husband has actually started bringing stuff home for me…lol. I’m amazed at how you transformed the drawers into something so pretty. Great job!

  7. Nikki Frank-Hamilton says:

Pili, I am never disappointed in your posts, lol, I am always amazed at your talent and there are times, like today, I am rolling on the floor laughing! I have been guilty of stalking someone else’s trash, and found some great things, sometimes they end up going back in the trash after I see them in the light of day! I love the planter boxes, such a great idea!

    • Pili says:

The more I practice collecting trash the less ashamed I am! I think my posh neighbors wonder what I am going to do with that and if I am sane!

  8. sue says:

I absolutely love what you do Pili! You are so clever and creative. Thanks for sharing another great idea with us at #WednesdaysWisdom and see you next week.

  9. Trish says:

These are so pretty. It is amazing that something so pretty came from something not so pretty. I have never searched a dumpster…However, I am seriously thinking about it.

    • Pili says:

Hi, Trish! I think we can find the beauty inside of everything… maybe we need some time to see it. And dumpsters are so attracting!
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

    Hi Pili,
Nicely done on giving it a new life! I would never envisioned that! Thanks for partying with us at Talented Tuesday. Hope you are having a great day!
    Cheers,
    AJ

  11. Nellie says:

Wow, your lil crates came out so cute……..love how they look and your plants look great in them as well.

It is really amazing what you can find on the street that
people are throwing out. I found a beautiful crock once
that evidentally had been a big water jug dispenser.
I still have it in my yard with a plant in it. The back had
an opening, but from the front it looks perfect.
Also saw an old treadle sewing machine once
when I was out walking but of course, couldn’t
carry it, and when I went back it was gone…….poo

The old saying another mans trash is another mans
treasure is definitely true, and you came up with
a great and clever way to make some treasures.

    Blessings, Nellie

    • Pili says:

Nellie that’s true, man’s trash is another man’s treasure… I love finding treasures as you! Thanks for stopping by!

Haha Mimi, you made me laugh!! I wish I was clever enough to make my dog not jump on my couch! Anyway, thanks for your comments and stopping by.
      Hugs,

    • Pili says:

Christine, I always drive the “big” van just in case I find something… And that day I was super lucky!!

  14. Sam // DIY Just Cuz says:

You’re so hilarious! It’s funny because I expected something completely different – like you’d redo the whole thing but I love that you have such an eye for seeing the details and taking away such a small piece of the overall “monster”. I think the end result is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for linking up at Welcome Home Wednesday!

    • Pili says:

Hi Sam! Thanks for stopping by and your kind comments! The “monster” was so damaged and filthy inside that I decided it was not worth trying to save it, but the drawers were perfect, as well as the doors (still waiting!)

  15. Darlene says:

Hi Pili. I love your monster/french flair crates.

About a year ago I saw quite the huge monster on the curbside. There was no way I could get it home so I just took two drawers with me. i use them to hold dvds.

    Thanks for sharing. Pinned.
