More Than DIY Projects: How to Better Take Advantage of Your Time

Hi, friends!

If you’ve been following my blog, you will know that there is no shortage of exciting DIY projects and creations to try. There are just so many things to make, especially with the tools and materials that we have today. It is even possible to get kids to join the excitement and share projects together.

There will be days when DIY projects alone are not enough. As exciting as they can be, I still find myself searching for more things to do. Those moments when the husband is at work and the kids are busy with their own activities that get me craving for achievements; I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way too.

Fortunately, there are solutions. Here are some of the awesome things you – and I – can do to better take advantage of our time.

Turn Crafts into Products

One of the best things you can do if you love the DIY projects and crafts on this site is turning them into products. A lot of people will want to have your creations; that’s a market just waiting to be explored. You can build a business around making custom tea towels or baking tasty treats as well as other crafts you love including digital prints.

Getting started is also very easy to do. You can set up an online store in just a few minutes with the help of platforms like Shopify. These platforms will handle payment processing and other hard work for you, so you can continue focusing on making the best products for your customers. You can also use WooCommerce if you are looking for a free, user-friendly ecommerce platform which is professional yet simple and has pretty much everything you need for a professional ecommerce setup right out of the box.

You can also start offering products to friends and relatives. Posting those delicious chocolate cookies you just baked or photos of gift baskets you arranged can bring more businesses to the table. All you have to do is take that first step and get started.

Go Back to School

You’ll be surprised by just how many moms are going back to school to pursue the degrees they have always wanted today. Thanks to distance learning programs and universities such as Adelphi University making their courses more accessible, it is now easy to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree from home.

A friend of mine is well on her way to getting an online health informatics degree. She signed up for an online MSHI program last year and has started taking classes from home when her kids are at school. Yes, it’s really that easy.

I know this last one sounds cliché, but reading is still one of the most wonderful things you can do to spend time. After all, there are so many great books to read, from the latest romance novels to practical DIY books and self-help series. All of these books will help you master new skills while having a lot of fun. Reading can be related to the DIY world if you plan to sell your products if you are a blogger. You can take an online course like this Affiliate Marketing for Bloggers where you will learn how to best monetize your blog.

If you want to read just for pleasure you can pick up a Kindle. The Paperwhite is very affordable and an Amazon Prime membership will grant you instant access to thousands of free books to read. Besides, you can have hundreds – if not thousands – of books stored in a Kindle. Slip it into your bag and take it to that coffee shop you love for a nice session of reading; what better way to spend some ‘me time’ than that?

These are some ideas to do more than DIY, and I would love to hear how you spend your time when you are not crafting or DIYing.

Great ideas Pili. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood to make something and I always find myself wandering around aimlessly and feeling bad about it later. It would be a good idea to start reading again or even thinking about ways we could sell all the things we make at home. Thanks lovely lady for the tips

Wonderful suggestions Pili. I know that sometimes I am not in the mood to make projects or I am just too tired. I think that trying to sell some of our great projects is a wonderful idea. So is reading. I’ve heard great things about the book you suggested.

Pili, these are great ideas! I like to create products when I’m not working on a project, but reading a book or two sounds lovely too.

Hey Pili, I completely agree with you about educating yourself. Constant growth is important whether it’s physically or mentally, and learning a new subject or information is the best way to use free time or even to reinvigorate yourself if low on motivation.
