How to make a DIY Scrabble Wall Art

Hey, my sweet friends!

We are about to end this year but I didn’t want to do it without joining one more month this fun Pinterest Challenge!

A group of ladies teamed up together to show some Pinterest crafts that inspired us and then we decided to make our own version.

For this month’s challenge I decided to give a cool DIY Scrabble wall art a try. I did it exactly one year ago (this 2018 has been a really busy year) and I hadn’t had time to share it here on the blog so here it goes.

My inspiration pin was this super cool DIY Scrabble wall art made by Our Vintage Nest.
Isn’t this gallery wall just amazing?
I knew it was a risk to try to make something similar but I am a huge fan of Scrabble and I love this wall. So why not to try? Anyway I was not going to show this picture to anyone so they wouldn’t be able to compare… Comparison is the theft of joy.
Everything started when my sister in law asked me for help. She had a friend who wanted to rent an old apartment and the budget was almost non-existent.
The few things it had, like beds, sofas and wardrobes had to go and we should do it within a month.
This is what one of the bedrooms used to look.
Another shot of it.
Having a big wall and no budget for decoration, I thought a DIY Scrabble wall art would be great for it so let’s see

How to make a DIY Scrabble wall art

The first thing was to decide what words I wanted it to have.
I cut some papers, added the letters and started playing with them until I found the composition I liked.

Then I took a piece of particle board I found in my scrap wood pile and used some maths to have enough for all the letters.

I cut them with my table saw but you can use a jigsaw too.

Then with the help of the computer designed some Scrabble papers, printed them and glued them on each piece.

I decided that each letter would have a slightly different background. You can’t tell from the picture because it was late at night.

That is quite the transformation! I love the Scrabble wall and the words you chose too. Thanks for sharing the files with us. Pinned.

  3. Jenny says:

The room looks great! My sister is a huge scrabble fan and I want to make her a scrabble wall art. The wall art looks awesome and our definitely words to live by.

  4. Erlene says:

This is a great project to fill a large wall space. i also like that you provided the printable tiles for those that don’t want to paint. Pinned.

  5. Julie says:

That’s so much fun, it looks fab.
I did a much smaller scrabble picture once, with actual scrabble tiles and all our family names which is still on the wall in our kitchen. I do really love the giant versions though.

  6. Michelle Leslie says:

Oh Wow Pili, that does look so cool and the words are perfect for a small apartment too. I must say you and your sis did an amazing job of turning that room around. It looks so much bigger and brighter now.
